School’s out, scream and shout!

 - by scorzacomenius

Of course you’re thinking about your future, your aspectatives,

your hopes and why not? a probable job!

But now, let’s go back to high school.

Surely you’ve done your best to “improve yourself, to be aserious person bla bla..” More or less ..

LIKE

THIS!

We were..careful and involved during the classes!

We spent hours studying :D

We felt school was like a second home

We used to cooperate

Anyway..

Now it’s university time! :D yeah, high school was a great period

but actually our responsabilities start!

•Choose a course

•Decide which University

•Try to pass the admission test

•Plan our New Life

Easy , isn’t it?

mmm..not

so easy

what course

should I

choose?”

These are the last famous words xD

Every student at the end of high school asks himself this great

question and most of the times the answer is..

AM I.. ?

Italian

students are very confused.

We

don’t have any idea about the job that we would like to do the rest of our

lives, maybe because we are too young and we can’t understand our skills.

Anyway the majority choose courses like Medicine, Engineering, Economy and

Jurisprudence instead of Math or Social Science.

Italy is a country run by

the elder generation, and the many young graduates are growing increasingly

frustrated by the lack of opportunity.

Many complain that Italy

has a hiring culture based on cronyism rather than meritocracy. The main

problem is that the old labor market in Italy is structured in a different way

compared to the others.

Here the career is very hierarchical and so even if you are a very

talented student, you cannot get a good position from the beginning.

Italian

graduates are increasingly opting to go abroad to find high-level jobs and

competitive salaries. Many complain that employers in Italy do not use an open

and fair selection process when filling positions

And so Italians move to Uk,Usa and even other neighboring

countries in Europe.

Let’s throw away our dreams

The majority of the students prefer attending traditional courses

(like for example Medicine or Engineering) because they think that it is vain

to follow their dreams ,the reason is because this kind of job is well paid

although it is hard to pass admission tests and the courses are longer than

others.

Unical

This is

one of the most important universities in Italy.

It has

got six faculties (Pharmacy, Economy, Engineering,

Letters and Philosophy,

Mathematical, Physical and

Natural

Sciences, Political Science).

Furthermore

the University has got a centre for disabled

students,

a guidance service for students in difficulty with

their

studies, scholarships, a center of Arts, Music and

Entertainment

that organize concerts, film festivals,

theatrical

performances and exhibitions and more.

New

Courses

During

these years some Italian Universities are introducing new courses very interesting

and modern.

The university of Verona for example recently introduced a Master

in “Computer Games and Business Intelligence” for the students who

love to project and create.

The University of Pavia introduced the faculty of ” Science

of Flowers and Green”

The University of Urbino that of “Fashion and Design“.

The Faculty of Pharmacy is one of the youngest at the University

of Calabria. Its courses are organized by the Departments of Pharmaco-Biology

and Pharmaceutical Sciences, by the Faculty of Pharmacy, and by the Departments

of Cell Biology and Chemistry.

And after University..

How many of us find a job?

•37,6% are attending o attended to a postgraduate training

•48,7% are working

•17,9% are unemployed

•39,3% are continuing work before the graduation

•39,3% have a stable job (€ 1,036 net monthly income)

•49,7% employees who believe their degree useful for his work

Italian Cities

 - by scorzacomenius

By Martina Fuoco

In Italy there are lot of beautiful cities but I want to talk about the most important ones.
rome

First of all I want to talk to you about Rome: The Eternal City! Yes, Rome is called The Eternal City and for me it is the mostr1

beautiful city in the world. Let’s start with a little history of Rome. Rome was founded in 753 B.C by Romolo. A legend says that , before its foundation, there was a battle between two twins, Romolo and Remo, to decide who had to be the king of the city . The emblem of the city is the female
wolf that fed Romolo and his twin Remo.

Now we have to say that is very important not only in Italy but also in the rest of the world because in it is situated a country apart (independent) and that is the Vatican, the Papal seat . Rome is our capital and it is the biggest city in Italy. It’s situated in the centre of Italy in the region Lazio. .
I want to talk about the famous monument ,the “Coliseum”.r3

It was built for the spectacular fights between men (gladiators) and wild animals. But there is a thing that lot of people don’t know: The Coliseum was also used for naval battles. To do them, they filled the arena of water.

Another famous monument is the Trevi’s Fountain. It is the biggest of all the fountains in Rome and considered one of the most famous fountains in the world. The theme of this one is the sea and tradition wants that throwing a coin in the fountain ,over your shoulders, brings luck.r4

This fountain is important also in the cinema world. Some directors chose the fountain to set parts of their films. One of the most famous films is “La Dolce Vita” of Federico Fellini. In this one we can see a famous scene: Anita Ekberg diving into the fountain, inviting Marcello Mastroianni to do the same.r5

There are lots of important monuments in Rome and it is very difficult to describe all of them. So I’ll just mention some of them: Square of Spain with its 135 steps, Castel S.Angelo, Navona Square, The Pantheon and lots of others.

By Anna Selene Chirillo

School in Italy is organized into four levels:
• Nursery
• Primary school
• Secondary school first and second level
1

• Nursery, which is not compulsory, accepts children under six years.
• Primary school lasts five years. At this level students have to wear a uniform

2

• Secondary school is divided into two stages: the first stage lasts 3 years and is the last compulsory stage. In fact in Italy you’re obliged to go to school until you’re sixteen
• There are several types of secondary high schools, in Italy, like: technolgical and professional institutes and gymnasiums. The secondary school that you choose often decides about your future, or future studies at university

In Italy we have lots of good universities, and every university is specialized in more subjects. There aren’t best public universities in Italy, but there are some universities which are more qualified in determined subjects.

For example here there are some public Universities:
• Università di Bologna, that is the oldest italian university and has got the largest number of faculties

3

• UNICAL – Università degli studi della Calabria. A recent statistic says that has got the best campus in Italy

4

• UNICAL – Università degli studi della Calabria. A recent statistic says that has got the best campus in Italy

5

And here there are some examples of private universities:
• LUISS Guido Carli – Libera università internazionale degli studi sociali, that is better qualified in: Economics, Law and Political Science.

6

• Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi, that is organized in five schools:
1. Undergraduate school
2. Graduate school
3. School of Law
4. PhD School
5. SDA

Relationship Parent – Children

 - by scorzacomenius

By Alessandro Acri plus his group

The relationship with our parents is very important in our life as concernes the relationship i have with my parents, it is good. In my class most of us have confidence with their parents, in particular with their mom. This confirms that Italian young people are generally mom’s boys. Absolutely what we don’t like is our parents “costant” intrusion in our daily life: they are too anxious and they worry too much, they should relax giving us the possibility to be free to make our choices. A good idea might be asking our parents to be more permissive, to try and understand us or to be on their children’s side.

By Annaselene Chirillo

Talking about my family, what can I say?
The relationship between my parents and me isn’t as good as that  of my friends.
It isn’t because  my parents don’t care about me and my privacy, but because of their excessive attention in this regard. They often ask me about my friends and what we say, as if they wanted to know every detail about our discussions. It can be very embarrassing .
They also quite often call me when I go out with my friends. It could be normal, if they did not ask me in every call the name of all my friends. I hate repeating aloud their names. It’s shameful.
Another eternal subject of discussion between us is the curfew on Saturday. All my friends can get back home after midnight, while I have to be at home at eleven maximum. We always quarrel for this.
Sometimes it happens that they punish me for something stupid, like a rude reply. They like imposing to me to stay home while my friends can go out. Instead I don’t like this at all.
I absolutely hate that they want me to be the best at school. It’s stressing and it makes me nervous.
Sometimes instead they are permissive. I didn’t trust them when they gave me the permission to make six piercing on my ears. They also allowed me to go to some concerts, when I asked. Once mom even came with me to a concert in Rome.
However, I know that they do this for my own good, but I wish we could  find a compromise.

My name is Giuseppe and I’m a sixteen-year-old student from Cerisano. My mum and my dad are fair and above all they are clear about what I can do and I can’t do.In family communication, dialogue, listening, attention are the essential elements for the growth, the formation and the maturity of the teenager. In the adolescence there are a lot of strange attitudes: Solitudine, restlesses, the refusal of family rules, the necessity to have a means of transport or to stay out a lot.Everything must be controlled by our parents. For example, I can bring my friends home, I can get up late on Sunday morning, I can use the phone when I want, but together with these things there are a lot of things I can’t do; and they are often the same actions I don’t want to do like drinking alcohol or smoking. In conclusion I think my relationship with my parents is fantastic.

aleacriHi! My name is Alessandro. I’m 16 years old and I live with my parents and my brother in Zumpano,  a small village near Cosenza, in the south of Italy. I attend the 3th class at a secondary school focusing on scientific subjects called “Liceo Scientifico Statale G.B. Scorza” . As my photo shows, I’ve got dark brown eyes and short, brown hair and I’m quite tall and slim. In my free time I like playing football, playing computer games, reading books, listening to music and playing at the Q-ZAR, a nice game which you play using a laser pistol. I like both Italian music and foreign music like the Queen, Eminem, the Coldplay, Michael Jackson, the Green Day, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and others. I also like watching films, the one I prefer  is Shindler’s list. I’m friendly, upstanding, polite and pleasant. I’d like to visit your countries and meet you all. See you soon.
